Another bomb-laden drone struck the DNO oil field in Tawke, within the Zakho Independent Administration, at 10:55 a.m. local time on Thursday, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Natural Resources said in a statement. The attack, which did not result in casualties or material damage, was strongly condemned by the ministry as a blatant assault on the Kurdistan Region’s economic infrastructure. “This type of attack on the economic lifeline of the Kurdistan Region is both shameful and unacceptable,” the statement said. “We have repeatedly called on the Federal Government of Iraq and the international community to take urgent steps to protect the lives of civilians living near these areas, as well as the lives of civil and security personnel working in the energy sector.” The ministry emphasized that such attacks directly threaten not only the Kurdistan Region’s vital energy infrastructure but also the safety of local communities and international investments. The ministry reiterated its demand for coordinated efforts to deter further aggression and safeguard the region’s economic and human assets. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of yet. The latest wave of drone attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region's energy infrastructure began on July 14 and has shown no sign of abating. On that day and the following, explosive-laden drones struck key oil facilities, including the Khormala and Sarsang fields, damaging equipment and raising concerns about the safety of energy operations in the region. Among the targets was the DNO-operated Tawke oil field in Zakho’s autonomous district, which came under attack again on Thursday. While no casualties were reported, the persistent assaults have alarmed the region's local authorities and energy companies, highlighting the growing threat to the Kurdistan Region’s economic lifeline.
